Maltese delegation to Wales - with Executive Head and IT Director of the Foundation for IT Accessibility


Series of meeting with focus on IoT, IT Accessibility and Innovative Aging, and Dementia Research — opportunities for collaboration between Wales and Malta.

- LIVING LAB / AWEN Collaboration – setting foundations for MOU to be signed in January 2024.

- Discussion about Malta serving as a gateway for Wales to both African and Commonwealth countries, starting with Namibia.

The Med-Tech World Summit 2023, held in Valletta, Malta, brought together over 1,500 attendees from 50 countries and featured 200 expert speakers. Delyth James, Digital Programme Lead at Life Sciences Hub Wales, described the event, where ground-breaking ideas met real-world applications, as ‘extraordinary’ The diverse attendee profile, including start-ups, established industries, clinicians, and students, created an environment for unparalleled networking opportunities and the formation of innovative collaborations.

Representatives from Wales showcased advancements in med tech, with Dr. Huw Williams discussing the future of medical education, and Dr. Mohid Khan presenting a vision for using digital technologies to enhance clinical trials. The synergy between academia, government, and industry was evident, fostering collaboration and shared goals. The event also provided a great platform for representatives like Rhiannon Evans from the Welsh Government to connect with companies across Europe. 

Delyth goes on to highlight interactions with Kurt Farrugia, CEO of Enterprise Malta, and Hon. Dr. Miriam Dalli, Minister for Environment, Energy, and Enterprise at the Government of Malta that took place at the VIP dinner hosted by Enterprise Malta. These interactions were described as transformative, with discussions fuelling innovation. Delyth expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent Wales, emphasising the importance of collaboration in the world of med tech.
